Subject: Is the Disney Afternoon getting better or worse? From: matthew Date: Tue, 20 Feb 1996 10:49:23 EDT Message-ID: I'm a freshman in college right now and I've pretty much grown up on Disney's TV shows. Gummi Bears was one of my first favorite shows. I loved the whole mythology built around the bears. DuckTales will always be my all-time favorite. It was just full of fun and interesting characters like Fenton Crackshell and Launchpad McQuack. Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers was interesting in its own right and because it gave new life to two of Disney's most classic characters. TaleSpin was interesting because of the complex characters and relationships. Darkwing Duck brought back my favorite character Launchpad and was probably the funniest show Disney ever produced. Goof Troop wasn't as good as most of its predacessors but it was still a pretty good show with more than its share of good episodes. And then came Bonkers. I tried and tried to get into Bonkers but I just couldn't. I found it quite dull and lacking in the humor and warmth of what had come before it. I liked how characters like Donald Duck, Ludwig Von Drake, and Goofy showed up but that was all it had for me. I even thought the animation was good (I understand a lot of people didn't?). Lucky Piquel (sp) seemed to have a lot of unexploited potential. And then came Aladdin. I loved the movie but I really think they should have left it there. Iago was my favorite character but I really don't think he would have changed sides like he did. I don't really think Aladdin is as much of a bad cartoon as it is just kind of a dull cartoon. It seems to me that it was just put out in the quest of more money. I don't want to insult Gargoyles or Timon and Pumbaa. The first just doesn't appeal to me while I've only seen just a few minutes of the second. The last few times I've watched the Disney Afternoon it kind of saddened me. It doesn't have that same kind of friendly feel to it anymore. It just seems cold. And I hate trying to be hip by reffering to something by its initials!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TDA indeed! I always liked the little opening theme to the Disney Afternoon. I thoght it was kind of nice to see proper homage payed to Mickey and Donald. It was always neat too to see all the characters together. I always liked how previews were shown throughout the two hours too (though I did not like the last scene in the show being painted over!). It was always cool too to see what show was going to come on tommorow. None of the new shows seem to have any kind of heart to them. I'd a lot rather have a little sappy than cold. Oh well, I guess I've rambled longer than I probably should have... What do you people think? I'm tired of only seeing Gargoyles stuff on this newsgroup! MATT
